GARDEN COMPOST.
Not to be confused with seed or potting compost, garden compost consists of various organic matter, which has been allowed to rot down in a compost heap for use as a substitute for manure. Like manure it improves and enriches the soil by adding humus and plant nutrients.
There are various systems for making compost; all of them rely on air, moisture and Nitrogen.
The compost heap should be constructed so that air can penetrate, it should be regularly watered, and small amounts of a Nitrogen-activator, usually manure or a Nitrogen fertilizer, should be addedeg chicken pellets.
